Ireland move up the World Ranking - or do they? - August 9, 2000

The monthly sham of the FIFA World Rankings are with us again and if you take a quick look at them you might believe that Ireland have moved up one place since last month. But how could that be possible since they haven't played an international game since early July?

They haven't really moved up at all. They were ranked 39th last month with 563 points and they are ranked joint 38th this month with 561 points.

Iran and Zambia have joined Ireland in 38th place with Korea one place above us. Despite England's terrible show in Euro 2000, they move up two places to 13! Give us a break FIFA! England are crap and Ireland would destroy any of the three teams around them.

Brazil are still No.1, with France close behind. Argentina have moved up again and they are now third, with the Czech Republic fourth and Spain finishing off the top five. Scotland are down one to 22, while Northern Ireland are down three to 98th. Poor old Wales are 103rd, down one.
