Francis hold out for draw - January 6, 2001
Waterford 1 St Francis 1
St. Francis earned another crack at Waterford United after somehow holding out for a draw at the RSC. Waterford were on top for most of the game but they failed to kill off their Dublin opponents which could prove costly.
The replay will be held on Wednesday night at John Hyland Park but this won't guarantee passage to the next round for St. Francis because they haven't won at home so far this season.
Waterford were all over St. Francis in the early stages but somehow found themselves a goal down in the 27th minute when Denis Stokes took advantage of defensive dithering to rob the ball from between Brendan Rae and David Breen before laying it off to Eoin Tighe who made no mistake for just inside the box.
The Blues chased and chased and finally got their reward in the 60th minute when Alan Kirby's cross from a corner bobbled around the box before captain Alan Reynolds stuck out a boot to force the ball over the line.
Waterford should have gone on to secure the win but St. Francis' rearguard action luckily kept them in the game to give them a chance to fight on another day.
