Waterford sign duo - June 20, 2000 Promoted Kilkenny City, seeking to sign players to ensure Premier division survival next season, have instead lost two! Brendan Rea and David Breen - both natives of Waterford - have left the Cats to sign for relegated Waterford United. Rea was probably Kilkenny's outstanding player last season - and it was his goal that helped the Cats to their outstanding result: the third-round FAI Cup win over Cork City in Turners Cross. Ironically, Kilkenny clinched their place in the Premier division by defeating Waterford in a two-legged play-off. That win - gained while Kilkenny manager Pat Byrne was under suspension - was masterminded by assistant manager Paul Power. Power took over as Waterford manager when Mike Flanagan was sacked last month and Rea and breen have opted to follow him to the RSC. |
