Bohs go top - August 28, 2000 UCD 0 Bohemians 1 Bohemians moved to the top of the Eircom Premier League with a comprehensive in somewhat unflattering win at Belfield against UCD on Sunday. Roddy Collins side only won 1-0 but if they had wanted too they could have easily beaten the Students by a larger margin. Always on top in the first half, they took the game to UCD and it was a surprise that it took a half an hour before they broke the deadlock. Mark Dempsey crossed the ball into the box and UCD's inability to clear was punished by Glen Crowe who swept the ball home from ten yards. After the break Bohs seemed to take the foot off the gas and allowed UCD some foothold in the game but it was only fleeting as the Gypsies raised the tempo again at the end and could have scored a hat-full. Central-defender Shaun Maher went close with a header but UCD goalkeeper Barry Ryan got a hand to it to tap it over the bar. Kevin Hunt and Tony O'Connor then tested Ryan but the goalkeeper again stood up to the pressure. Right at the death UCD could have stolen an unwarranted share of the spoils when Clive Delaney slipped the ball under Wayne Russell but Shaun Maher got back to clear off the line.
