Saints unbackable for League Cup tonight - February 12, 2001

UCD v St. Patrick's Atheltic, League Cup final 19:45

St. Patrick's Athletic are now unbackable favourites for tonight's League Cup final second leg against UCD at Belfield.

Already holding a 3-1 advantage over the Students from the first leg, the Saints scored another psychological blow on Friday night when they beat the same opposition 2-1 in an Eircom League premier division game.

To compound UCD's troubles, main man Kevin Grogan will again be missing tonight - and without him it is hard to see UCD breaking down St. Pats' defence. Full back Eamonn McLaughlin is also injured, as is long-term victim John Martin who has more games than he has played this season.

Pat's had doubts about Jamie Harris and Padraig Drew on Friday but both were passed fit and both came through okay. Manager Pat Dolan is expected to field an unchanged side.

The Students led 1-0 for much of that match and should have won but conceded two goals in injury time to suffer a sickening defeat.

"Nobody will give us a chance," says UCD manager Martin Moran, "but we must believe that a two-goal deficit is not an insurmountable task for us."
