UCD boss considers quitting - February 14, 2001

UCD manager Martin Moran has admitted that he considered quitting at the weekend - and hinted that this season may be his last in management.

The Students had a miserable week, giving away two goals in the last minute to lose a premier division match to St. Pat's on Friday night; and then losing 5-3 on aggregate to the same opposition in the League Cup final on Monday.

They lie third from bottom and face a relegation play-off at the end of the season.

Moran admitted: "Last Friday after we threw away that last-minute lead against St. Pat's I felt like giving it all up. It's been my frustrating year in soccer, what with the number of injuries we have had and he number of games we have lost when we should have won.

"But giving up would be the easy option. I've no intention of packing it in."

Moran said he was determined that the season should finish on an upward curve - but hinted that he might step down afterwards.

"In the long term, it may be that UCD will need to appoint a full-time boss. But that's for the committee to decide," he said.
