Galway win basement battle - January 22, 2001
UCD 0 Galway United 1
Galway United hammered another nail in UCD's premier division coffin at Belfield yesterday and did themselves a favour at the same time.
The Students are now four points adrift of Derry in the relegation play-off spot, while Galway are seven points clear of trouble.
UCD had their chances to win this one but found Galway 'keeper David Forde in superb form. He denied first Robert McAuley, then Ciaran Martyn and then, crucially, Kevin Grogan - just after Galway had taken the lead.
That came on 74 minutes when Derek O'Brien collected from Ger Crossley and curled a 25-yard shot into the top corner. It was O'Brien's first senior goal.
