UCD have their work cut out in Bulgaria - June 23, 2000 UCD go into their second leg of the first round of the InterToto Cup against FC Velbahzd on an even keel with the Bulgarian outfit after a 3-3 draw at Belfield last weekend - but they will have their work cut out to get a positive result at the Osogovo Stadium in Kiustendil on Sunday. A goal in the 76th minute by Ciaran Martyn in the first leg earned the Students a draw but Velbahzd will be very confident of finishing the job this weekend. Velbahzd's home form in the Bulgarian League this season has been outstanding. They have not lost at the Osogova Stadium since November 11, 1999, and have only lost two games there all season. Lovech and champions Levski Sofia were the only teams to beat them at home and in the other 13 games they triumphed eleven times including a 3-1 win against CSKA Sofia. They have only conceded three goals at home since the turn of the year and scored 16, including six unanswered strikes against Shumen. If the Students can come away from Bulgaria with any kind of positive result it will be a job well done but on form lines it looks as if they're on a hiding to nothing. «back to eircom league stories |
