Givens picks an unchanged u21 squad - September 27, 2000

Even though Ireland lost 2-0 against Holland in their first game of the u21 European Championship qualifiers the players must have impressed their manager enough because he has picked the same squad again.

Well, that is the same squad that travelled to Holland because Givens had defections from his original picks and had to call up Liam Miller, who retains his place.

The Ireland u21s face Portugal on Friday, October 6, in Marinha Grande (21:00 BST) and then Estonia in Buckley Park, Kilkenny, on Tuesday, October 10.

Expect a big crowd at the home game as former Kilkenny City favourite Michael Reddy will most certainly play. Reddy burst into the Kilkenny squad as a chap and has since gone on to establish himself as a squad member at Sunderland.

He scored his first goal of the season in the Worthington Cup on Tuesday night and is sure to be looking forward to his homecoming.

Squad:
Goalkeepers - Joe Murphy (Tranmere), Dean Delaney (Port Vale).
Defenders - Colin Healy (Celtic), Damien Lynch (Leeds United), Jason Gavin (Middlesbrough), John O'Shea (Manchester Utd), Clive Clarke (Stoke City).
Midfielders - Martin Rowlands (Brentford), Barry Quinn (Coventry), James O'Connor (Stoke City), Liam Miller (Celtic), Alan Quinn (Sheffield Wed), John McGrath (Aston Villa), Richie Partridge (Liverpool).
Strikers - Michael Reddy (Sunderland), Gary Doherty (Tottenham), Graham Barrett (Arsenal), Stephen Hunt (Crystal Palace).
