Givens includes newcomers - February 14, 2000

As expected, Republic of Ireland u21 manager Don Givens has included Millwall's Steven Reid in his squad for the friendly against Denmark on February 27.

The tough tackling Kingston-born midfielder declared for the Republic just this season. He has played thirty times for Millwall's first team this season and has banged in four goals - as well as picking up two red cards and five yellows!

Three other uncapped players are named in the squad: Brian O'Callaghan (Barnsley), Keith Foy (Nottingham Forest) and Liam Miller (Celtic) have all secured early promotion from last year's u18 squad. Liam Miller has twice made it into the squad already but has yet to make his debut.

"It's a good opportunity for me to try out several new players in view of our forthcoming Euro u21 games," the Irish manager said.

For some strange reason, some Irish sites are today also naming Liam George (Luton) and Richard Sadlier (Millwall) as uncapped at this level! But George played against Macedonia, the Czech Republic and Ghana last season, while Sadlier was capped against Macedonia.
