Ireland Youth manager Brian Kerr has gone back to the Nottingham Forest underage well for five of the squad for the u18 European Championship qualifying mini-tournament in the Czech Republic later this month - and if the well dries up this time as it did for Ireland's last friendly it could cause serious problems.

The FAI were outraged when Nottingham Forest withdrew Barry Roche, Brian Cash and Niall Hudson for the final warm-up game before the mini-tournament. Ireland played a talented Switzerland team at Frank Cooke Park and lost 2-1 to the visitors.

If there is any repeat of the withdrawals then Kerr will most likely invoke the UEFA rule which states that if a player cannot play for his country then he cannot play for his club.

Kerr's three late replacements for the Swiss game - Brian Murphy, JJ Melligan and Robert Martin of UCD - all miss out this time, as does Manchester United's Alan McDermott because of injury.

Ireland play the hosts, Czech Republic, on October 15 and follow that up with a game against Moldova two days later. They finish the tough qualifying mini-tournament with a game against Bulgaria on October 19.
