Kerr's injury list grows - June 7, 2000

Another two players have been forced to pull out of Brian Kerr's Ireland u17 squad for a prestigious international tournament in Portugal. Colin Larkin - who has already seen first-team action at Wolves - and Anthony Shevlin of Nottingham Forest are the latest withdrawals.

They will be replaced by Sean Malee (Galway United) and Derek Treston (Belvedere) for the tournament, which sees Ireland take on the USA tomorrow, Norway on Thursday and hosts Portugal on Sunday.

Kerr had already lost five Nottm Forest players - Barry Roche, Niall Hudson, Brian Cash, Niall McNamara and Andy Reid - because of club commitments. That loss forced Kerr into calling four more players into his squad.

One of the newcomers is 6ft 4in Barnsley defender Michael Welch, whose mother hails from Wexford, while Saul Deeny (Notts County), Michael Keane (Preston) and JJ Melligan (Wolves) also come in. Kerr has also lost Blackburn' s Fred Murray, who injured ribs in the recent u17 tournament in Slovakia.
