Dutch kids' late escape - November 8, 2000

Ireland u15 1 Holland u15 1

Ireland's u15s came within three minutes of recording a win against the highly-rated Dutch in Dublin yesterday.

Ahead from the 29th minute, Vinny Butler's kids maintained their lead until the 77th minute of this 80-minute game, when substitute Tom Daemen curled a free kick into the top corner of the Irish net - ironically, past Ireland's Dutch-born 'keeper Tony Emmelkamp, who had been on the field less than a minute.

Ireland dominated the opening exchanges in the rearranged match at Cathal Brugha Barracks in Rathmines - postponed because of flooding the previous day.

William Flood missed two good chances to put the home team into an early lead, before Belvedere's Andrew Cousins - younger brother of Shamrock Rovers' Tony - made the breakthrough.

The sides meet again at Sundrive Park this afternoon.
