Cassidy downs Danes again - November 24, 2000
Ireland u15 2 Denmark u15 1
David Cassidy, two-goal hero of the Ireland u15 team's 3-2 win over Denmark on Tuesday, struck again yesterday to make it two wins out of two against the Danes.
The Home Farm striker found the target five minutes from time to give Vinny Butler's Irish squad a deserved 2-1 win at the AUL Complex in Clonshaugh.
Andy Cousins played Cassidy through and, though 'keeper Jesper Hansen thought he had saved Danish bacon by beating away his first effort, Cassidy reacted quickest to steer the rebound home.
The goal was in symmetry with Ireland's opener, scored by Kevin O'Connor five minutes into the game.
In between, Ireland had chances a plenty, with Barry Thornton and William Flood going close in the first half and Cassidy, who came on as a half-time sub, heading off the underside of the crossbar early in the second half.
Instead it was the Danes who grabbed the second goal, through Rune Rasmussen Lind in the 20th minute. And they could have taken an undeserved lead in the 70th minute when Casper Larsen hit an upright with a shot from just outside the box.
