Ireland u14 2 Scotland u14 1

Paddy Hilliard's Ireland u14 team outclassed Scotland at Frank Cooke Park yesterday. Ireland were in complete charge of the game and were unlucky not to win by more than their 2-1 margin.

Hilliard picked a strong squad of 27 for two matches in two days against the Scots and the win yesterday sets them up for the second showdown tomorrow at the AUL.

Ireland took the lead after 13 minutes when St. Joseph's Boys' Alan O'Brien scored directly from a corner a la Steve Staunton. The home team doubled their lead 12 minutes later when Lourdes Celtic striker Stephen Guinan laid a perfect pass to Paul Murphy of Enniscorthy All Blacks. He had the time to pick his spot past Scotland goalkeeper John Hutchinson.

Scotland did pull a goal back on the stroke of half time when James Winter hit a bullet-like shot from 20 yards which gave Irish goalkeeper Paul Michael Murphy no chance.
