Cardiff release Sheridan - November 27, 2000

Ex-Shels hero Tony Sheridan has been released by Cardiff City without playing a league game.

Sheridan was signed by then manager Bobby Gould from Portadown during the summer. Gould, who had managed Sheridan as a youngster at Coventry City, was quoted as saying: "This could the most important signing I make all year."

But after playing just two Welsh Cup matches and sitting on the bench for a Worthington Cup game against Crystal Palace, the 25-year-old Dubliner has been released.

Gould moved upstairs recently to become General Manager with head coach Alan Cork taking over first-team duties - and Sheridan has clearly failed to impress Cork.

However, his availability is sure to attract the attention of Eircom League clubs.
