Sheridan wants south - July 11, 2000

Former Shels and Coventry hero Tony Sheridan is out of contract at Irish League outfit Portadown - and wants to return to the Eircom League.
Under the Bosman rule, a club in the Republic could snap up Sheridan (25) for free.

'The league is stronger down south and I want to try my hand down here again,' the former u21 international said. 'In hindsight, I'm not so sure I should have left Shelbourne.'

Sheridan moved north on a one-year contract - and, in his absence, Shelbourne, so long the bridesmaids of the Eircom League, won the championship!

'I enjoyed my spell in the north and had a good time working with former Shamrock Rovers player Vinny Arkins, who finished top scorer in our league,' Sheridan said.

'But I want another go in the Eircom Premier division and I'm willing to knuckle down again to prove myself.'
