Bankies sack Coyne - February 2, 2001
Former Irish international striker Tommy Coyne has been sacked as manager of Clydebank, after just six months in the job - and despite the fact that the Bankies are currently well placed in Scotland's division two.
The financially troubled club is in administration and it was the administrators who took the decision to sack Coyne - just 24 hours after the administrators at first-division Greenock Morton decided to sack manager Allan Evans.
It is understood that Coyne's sacking came at the request of businessman David McGhie, who looks set to buy Clydebank from the administrators.
Coyne has issued no statement as yet but is likely to sue for wrongful dismissal if appropriate compensation is not forthcoming. The Bankies lie fourth in division two, with a game in hand over Arbroath, who are just two points ahead.
Player-coach Fraser Wishart will take over, assisted by former St. Mirren boss Tony Fitzpatrick.
Coyne's sacking might ring a bell at Dalymount. During the close season, Bohemians manager Roddy Collins made an audacious bid to sign the former Celtic and Tranmere star from Dundee, before Coyne landed the Clydebank job!
