Coyne in demand - February 15, 2001

Former Republic of Ireland international Tommy Coyne is considering a return to full-time playing, after being sacked as Clydebank player-manager last month - and his services are in demand.

Raith Rovers manager Peter Hetherston is keen to sign Coyne to play in the Scottish first division and has already made the former Celtic and Tranmere player an offer.

But Coyne is also considering a move to third division Albion Rovers. The Irishman lined out for Albion in a behind-closed-doors challenge against Ayr yesterday and impressed manager John McVeigh enough to secure an offer from him too.

However, the 39-year-old left himself on the bench during his last couple of months in charge at Clydebank and is reportedly some way short of match fitness. He last saw competitive action in the Scottish Cup match against Queen of the South in mid-November.
