Brennan's Cup worry - March 2, 2001

Foot and mouth disease might rule Kilkenny City's Damien Brennan out of a glamour FAI Cup quarter-final against Bohemians at Buckley Park!

The Cats have resigned themselves to relegation from the Eircom League premier division this season - but they intend to make things hot for Bohs when the Cup comes round again! Kilkenny have just commenced building a state-of-the-art grandstand and dressing-room complex - the perfect backdrop for European football next season!

City held Bohemians to a draw the last time the teams met, in January, and feel they can march on to the semi-final.

The quarter-final was due to be played this weekend - but the cancellations due to the foot and mouth disease have put paid to that.

And now former Huddersfield defender Brennan has been left sweating on the refixture. He was handed a one-match ban yesterday which comes into effect on Tuesday, March 13 - and that could well rule him out of the glamour tie.

Brennan was keen to put one over on Bohs: he played two Supercup games in pre-season for the Gypsies before they decided they weren't interested.

Other players to pick up one-match bans yesterday were Bray's Dave Campbell, Shelbourne's Tony McCarthy, UCD's Robert McAuley and Finn Harps winger Paddy McGrenaghan.

In the first division, Drogheda's Stuart Smith and Sligo's Jim Sheridan will also miss one game.
