Sunderland interested in Finnan - June 12, 2000

Steve Finnan's introduction to senior international football could serve him well in club football. The Fulham full-back is coming to the notice of Premiership clubs and it has been reported that Sunderland are ready to pay the Craven Cottage club £2m for his services.

Finnan had a great season with Fulham, performing at a very high level all year. He has the ability to play in many positions - right-back, left-back, right-midfield, left-midfield and even just in front of the forwards.

Sunderland manager Peter Reid is believed to be looking to offload Nicky Sumberbee after a failing out between the pair last season and he sees Finnan as the perfect replacement.

Finnan is highly rated by Fulham and has just signed a new four-year contract at Craven Cottage and it remains to be seen whether they are ready to part with him.
