Derry should fear Bray - August 18, 2000

Derry City started last season with three straight wins before coming unstuck against Bohemians but it could be the opposite this season as they travel to the Carlisle Grounds to take on confident Bray Wanderers tonight.

Bray beat champions Shelbourne at Tolka Park last week while Derry were losing to Longford at the Brandywell. On this form there is no way that anybody could fancy the Candystripes for a win tonight - but funnier things have happened.

Derry welcome back Liam Coyle, Eddie McCallion and James Quigley, which should strengthen then considerably. But on the negative side there are injury worries about both Eamon Doherty and Gary Beckett.

Bray too have their problems. Mick Doohan is suspended while Jody Lynch, Stephen Fox and Ciaran Ryan are all struggling with injury. But they do have the in-form Jason Byrne who can turn a game on its head in seconds.

The cousin of Robbie Keane will not be playing in Ireland much longer - but Bray will be hoping to get the best from him with the time that is left.

Elsewhere, St. Patrick's Athletic host UCD at Richmond Park tonight. Pat's will be hoping to bounce back from their opening day defeat at the hands of Cork City. Influential Paul Osam returns to the fold after missing out last week and he should make a big difference to the side.

UCD will be confident going into the game after beginning the new campaign with a win over Kilkenny City last weekend. Tonight will be a test for the young Student squad as they bid to match or better their fourth-place finish of last season.
