Geoghegan suffers freak injury - January 18, 2001
Prolific striker Stephen Geoghegan could have played his last game for Shelbourne this season after he suffered a freak injury in training on Tuesday night.
The 31-year-old striker, who has only returned to action for league leaders Shelbourne in the last month, was involved in a collision with a teammate which left him in a heap on the ground.
Straight away it was expected that he had damaged his knee ligaments and if this is the case it will end his season.
Geoghegan got immediate treatment from the Shelbourne staff and he attended hospital yesterday to probe the extent of the damage.
Shels boss Dermot Keely said: "We won't be able to tell how bad Stephen's injury is until the results of the scan come back, but the initial assessment didn't look too good.
"If it's as bad as it looked on Tuesday night then Stephen will miss the next three months."
