Staunton to stay at Selhurst - November 17, 2000

Steve Staunton is ready to extend his loan deal with Crystal Palace for another month. The out-of-favour Liverpool defender has been in stunning form for the Eagles and celebrated his international comeback with a cracking goal against Finland on Wednesday.

His current loan deal comes to an end with Palace's home game against Tranmere tomorrow but boss Alan Smith wants him to stay until Christmas.

"I'm delighted that the boss is pleased with my form and I would like to stay on because we have turned it around in the last few weeks," the 86-times capped Staunton said. "But I'll wait and see if another club makes me a long-term offer before I make that decision.

"My only objective is to move to a club that can offer me first-team football - money isn't the prime consideration."

If Staunton does decide to sign on with Palace for another spell, he will leave it until Thursday so that the four weeks will cover Palace's game against Blackburn Rovers on December 23.
