Bradford deny Staunton link - September 13, 2000 Bradford City chairman Geoffrey Richmond has denied that his club want to sign Irish international Steve Staunton. Staunton had been linked with a move to Valley Parade after being given a free transfer by Liverpool - but Bradford say they have made no inquiry about the player. Even with Bradford out of the picture for Staunton's services there are still a couple of clubs in the frame for the defender. Villa and Manchester City are two of the interested parties and it would be no surprise to see the player returning to Villa Park even though he left it in less than happy circumstances. Staunton needs first-team football - and the sooner the better - if he is not to lose his place in the Irish squad for their next World Cup qualifier against the talented Portuguese. |
