McPhail comes through reserve game - November 24, 2000

It is still not clear whether Stephen McPhail needs an Achilles tendon operation but the Republic of Ireland midfielder got back into action last night for the Leeds reserve team.

McPhail, who has been out of action nearly all season with the Achilles injury, played for an hour of the game against Sunderland which saw Leeds lose their 100% record.

The game proved a bit of a meeting place for the Irish. Leeds had Alan Maybury, Damien Lynch and McPhail in their team while Sunderland had Brendan McGill, Michael Reddy and rising star Clifford Byrne.

Of the Irish, Reddy came closest to scoring but his 56th-minute shot was well saved by Leeds goalkeeper Danny Milosovic.
