Cassidy rings the changes at Sligo - June 6, 2000 Sligo Rovers manager Tommy Cassidy has moved quickly to change his squad for the start of next year’s campaign. Relegated Sligo have off-loaded five players and brought in two as replacements at the Showgrounds. Cassidy has released Packie Gallagher, Declan Lynch, Ian Lynch, Donnagh Oates and, surprisingly, free-scoring Glen Shannon. The Sligo boss has brought Shelbourne goalkeeper Danny O’Leary and Home Farm’s Peter Rogers into the club. Padraig Moran and Wesley Charles have both signed new contracts with Sligo even though Moran had been linked with a move to Bohemians. Bohs are not the only team interested in Sligo’s star player. Cork and Galway have also made inquiries but the price tag in excess of £30,000 has put the frighteners on them. Elsewhere, Waterford wake up to the nightmare of Division One football next season. They are being attacked on all fronts for their best players. Derry City are close to signing goalkeeper Michael Devine while Cork are closing in on a deal which would bring John Frost further south. |
