Shels get shirty over sending off - September 14, 2000

Shelbourne plan to appeal the sending off of Richie Foran, which happened during the club's 1-0 victory over Kilkenny City at Tolka Park last Friday night.

Foran scored the only goal of the game and in his exuberant celebration the player removed his shirt. He had been booked earlier on in the game and referee Eddie Barr lost all run of himself and booked the youngster for the second time for the celebration.

Foran walked, which could have cost Shelbourne dearly. Now they plan on appealing the sending off so that the player does not have to serve a ban.

A Shelbourne spokesman claims that there is no rule that allows a referee to book a player for taking off his shirt. If this is the truth, then Foran's sending off must surely be rescinded.
