Rising stars get senior chance - November 8, 2000 Irish u21 stars Michael Reddy and Richard Sadlier have been invited to train with the senior squad ahead of Wednesday's friendly against Finland. Sunderland's Reddy is on the verge of breaking through permanently into the Premiership side, while Millwall's Sadlier has been scoring goals for fun - four strikes in six appearances since his return from long-term injury last month. "This is a good opportunity for me to have a look at the two lads up close" senior boss Mick McCarthy said yesterday. "it will also be a good introduction for them to life with the senior squad. They will be given the opportunity of seeing how we do things and they will have the opportunity of settling in without being under any kind of pressure." Reddy has been an ever-present in Don Givens' u21 side this season. Sadlier won his only u21 cap in late 1998 before a broken leg last season curtailed his career. |
