Millwall pledge backing for accused Ryan - March 1, 2001
Millwall say they will stand by their former Republic of Ireland u21 international defender, Robbie Ryan, following yesterday's decision by the FA to charge him with misconduct.
Former Belvedere Boys and Huddersfield Town star Ryan has been cited by Brentford for an incident which left the Bees' Michael Dobson requiring stitches in a head wound a fortnight ago. The FA has studied video footage of the incident and has decided that Ryan has a case to answer.
But the 24-year-old Irishman, who was not booked for the incident, insists the collision was accidental - and his manager, Mark McGhee, has described the FA's decision as shocking.
Millwall say they will produce their own video footage to refute the charge - and they are prepared to take legal action against the FA if Ryan is punished.
