Robert Quinn joins Oxford - January 15, 2001
Robert Quinn joined Oxford United from Brentford on Friday for £75,000 and went straight into the U's team for Saturday's game against high-flying Walsall which they surprisingly won.
The win was only Oxford's fourth of the season which leaves them with an awful lot more work to do if they are to climb out of the relegation zone in Division Two. They currently sit rock-bottom, four points behind Luton and a massive ten points away from safety.
Quinn's deal was raced through Friday before the midday deadline as Brentford boss Ron Noades tried to balance the club's books. The move will surprise most Brentford fans because the 24-year-old midfielder has been nearly ever present so far this season.
He joined Brentford from Crystal Palace in 1998 along with fellow Irishmen Danny Boxall, Tony Folan and Richard Kennedy. Boxall is injured at the moment but it remains to be seen how long the other two last at Brentford.
Quinn has been capped for Ireland at u21 and 'B' level but with the lack of 'B' games over recent years he has become one of the many forgotten men of Irish football.
