Fergie won't risk Roy - November 3, 2000

Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson will wrap skipper Roy Keane in cotton-wool again tomorrow if it means the Irishman will be fit for next week's must-win Champions League game against Dynamo Kiev.

Keane has missed the last three matches - including the 2-1 Euro defeat to Anderlecht - after limping out of the Premiership game against Leeds a fortnight ago with hamstring trouble.

But Ferguson says he doesn't mind Keane missing tomorrow's Premiership meeting with Coventry, provided the skipper is 100% fit to face Kiev on Wednesday in a game United have to win in order to retain their interest in the competition.

And the United boss won't risk Roy tomorrow if there is the slightest chance that playing would hamper his chances of facing he Ukrainians. United's own 'dynamo' returned to training last Friday and has so far felt no ill effects.

That should mean Keane will be available to Irish boss Mick McCarthy for the friendly against Finland on November 15.
