Roy pledges future to United - August 4, 2000 Manchester United captain Roy Keane has said that he would like to spend the rest of his career at Old Trafford if the club wants him. This will be music to Alex Ferguson's ears. Keane and success go hand in hand and the Old Trafford boss knows that this in no coincidence. Keane said: "I have three years left on my contract, taking me up to 32. I am more than happy to see that out. I know I have said I wouldn't mind finishing my career at Celtic. But, as long as United want me, I am happy. Who knows, in two years time I might renew this contract. I'd like to think I'll still have three or four years left in me then. Keane and co. are in Munich for Bayern's centenary tournament. They face Champions League winners Real Madrid tonight and will have to be sharp as Real are flying at this early stage. Keane could have been a Bayern player if Manchester United hadn't met his wage demands when he was negotiating his new contract. The Irish captain said: "Bayern made me an incredible offer, to be fair. But I said from the day one that I always wanted to stay at Old Trafford. A number of other big clubs showed similar intent. But I re-signed for United and, hand on heart, I have absolutely no regrets." |
