Robinson rescues Rovers - January 15, 2001

Shamrock Rovers 1 UCD 1

Rovers, who started the weekend in third spot, have slipped to fifth after being held to a draw by third-from-bottom UCD.

The Students shocked the Hoops by grabbing the lead through Glen Fitzpatrick in first-half injury time, but Shane Robinson popped up to rescue the home team within two minutes of the restart.

Tony Grant had gone close to giving Rovers the lead after 18 minutes when he headed Billy Woods' corner against the crossbar. Ten minutes later, the dangerous Kevin Grogan had a shot cleared off the line for UCD.

With the referee about to blow for half time, Grogan atoned. His free kick was touched on by Ciaran Martyn and Fitzpatrick was there to steer it home from point-blank range.

Two minutes after the restart, Rovers were back on terms. Tony Grant pulled the ball back from the end line and Pascal Vaudequin's mis-hit shot fell kindly for Shane Robinson, who poked it home.

Chances were few and far between in the second half, but Sean Francis went close for Rovers right at the death, heading just over the top from a Billy Woods free kick.
