Rovers' late strikes see off Derry - October 30, 2000

Shamrock Rovers 2 Derry City 0

Rovers change their home ground more often than England change managers - but Derry haven't been able to win on any of them since 1994!

Goals right at the end of each half by Jason Colwell and Tony Grant eased the Hoops to their fourth unbeaten game on the trot, with Colwell bagging his second goal of the season in consecutive weeks.

Rovers cranked up the pressure as the first half wore on but Derry looked as if they would survive to the break when Colwell scored with the whistle already in the ref's mouth - the ball pinging around Derry's box like a pinball until Colwell despatched it at his second attempt.

Derry worked hard for an equaliser and Rovers had to survive a few nervous moments. But, as in the first half, the Hoops grew stronger as the half progressed and threatened to double their lead from about the midway point.

But they left it even later this time: three minutes of injury time had already expired when Tony Grant blasted home from close range.
