Hoops hit by injuries - January 23, 2001
Shamrock Rovers' injury worries are mounting ahead of tomorrow night's crucial clash with Cork City at Turners Cross.
Long-term victims Tony Cousins, Marc Kenny and Derek Tracey are still ruled out and, to make matters worse, Brian Byrne and Dave Smith both picked up injuries in Sunday's 2-0 defeat to Derry City.
That defeat saw Rovers drop to sixth place in the table, while cock-a-hoop Cork climbed a place after their draw with leaders Shelbourne.
Now Rovers and Cork are level on 30 points - and both desperately need a win in order to maintain their challenge for a European place.
Pascal Vaudequin is likely to come in at the back for Smith but boss Damien Richardson's midfield resources are now stretched desperately thin and full back Billy Woods may well be pressed into an emergency central role against his former club.
