Sherlock needed at Rovers - August 14, 2000 With Dublin knocked out of this year's All-Ireland by Kildare at the weekend it opens the door for Jason Sherlock to return to the Eircom League and Rovers manager Damien Richardson would welcome him back with open arms because the club are in the middle of an injury crisis. Rovers open up their league campaign with a Dublin derby against Bohemians tonight but they will have to do without the services of Tony Cousins, Graham Lawlor and Brian Byrne. Cousins and Lawlor are injured while Byrne is suspended. Richardson would like to have Sherlock to chose from. He said: "During the Leinster Championship, Jason looked like the Jason of old and that's good news for Rovers. Nobody wants to rush Jason back into soccer but he knows I'll be delighted to see him back in the green and white shirt." Bohemians manager Roddy Collins is calling on his team to show no complacency in tonight's game even though it comes in between their UEFA Cup showdown with Aberdeen. Bohs could create their own piece of history if they finish off the job against Scottish Premier outfit Aberdeen but Collins is only thinking about one match at a time and tonight's comes first. Collins said: "I'm thrilled that we've received so much good press in the last few days because the players and club deserve it. However, I'm determined that my players leave Thursday night's match behind them and concentrate fully on lifting the points from this match." «back to eircom league stories |
