O'Brien wants Forest loan move - January 31, 2001
Former St. Joseph's Boy Ronnie O'Brien is contemplating staying on loan at Nottingham Forest for the remainder of the season after his weeks trial ends.
Ronnie, who joined Juventus on a five-year deal after his Middlesbrough contract was terminated, does not want to leave the Serie A giants but first-team football is what it is all about at this stage of his career.
Ronnie played some InterToto Cup games for Juve but since then he has had to do with loan spell in Belgium and with Como in Serie C for his first-team football. Returning to England and the strains of first-division football can only be good for his career.
He said: "A move to Forest would be great for me because I need first-team football. My aim is to do as well as I can this week and hopefully stay for the rest of the season and if it goes really well I would like to stay next season. But that's not up to me - it's up to Forest.
"My agent has been after a loan move for quite some time now and when Forest came in it was done and dusted quite quickly. I can tell that this is a big club, with superb facilities."
"I've thoroughly enjoyed my time at Juventus and would like to stay there. Training with players like Zinedine Zidane and Edgar Davids is like living in a dream.
"If I do well at Forest, maybe I could have a better chance of making the team there, but for the moment I'm going to concentrate on doing a good job here at Forest. I'm fully fit and raring to go."
