Robbie rival Recoba leaves Italy - February 9, 2001

Uruguayan international Alvaro Recoba - one of Robbie Keane's main rivals for a first-team place at Inter Milan - has left Italy to try to sort out his employment status. But he has vowed to return within days.

Recoba was one of a number of Serie A players questioned by public prosecutor Carlo Verni in a passport irregularities investigation involving foreign players.

Recoba must return to Montevideo and apply for a work visa so that he can legally return to play in Italy.

The player himself believes he can be back in time for Inter's game against Reggina this Sunday and he added: "Next week we have the UEFA Cup and I definitely want to be there."

Inter tried to get Robbie Keane - who was today named Carling Player of the Month for January - back from loan at Leeds United this week but were reportedly rebuffed by Leeds manager David O'Leary.
