Keane fighting for one of two places - January 17, 2001

Leeds United manager David O'Leary has told his four strikers that they are only fighting for two places.

O'Leary plans to stick to a 4-4-2 formation for the remainder of the season which will leave two of his star strikers sitting on the sidelines every week.

Robbie Keane did his chances no harm at all with his two-goal substitute appearance at the weekend against Man City but he will have to keep up this form if he is to keep Alan Smith, Marc Viduka and Michael Bridges out of the team.

O'Leary said: "I had to play 4-3-3- against Barnsley because Jason Wilcox wasn't 100% but the three forwards system isn't ideal as you get three players looking for the same space. I would say 4-4-2 is my ideal formation."
