Dunne move hits hitch - August 17, 2000

Irish defender Richard Dunne’s £2.5 million move to Wimbledon has hit a snag. The centre back has agreed personal terms with Dons manager Terry Burton and Everton are happy with the fee.

But the Toffees are believed to be stalling on Dunne’s signing-on bonus.

The player believes he is entitled to a percentage of the £2.5m because he did not request the transfer. Yesterday he spoke to Goodison Park officials about the money – but failed to win a commitment.

Now Dunne will wait until after Everton’s Premiership opener against Leeds United on Saturday before buttonholing manager Walter Smith on the issue.

Dunne can afford to bide his time – he carries a five-match ban over from last season!
