Casey out 'for months' - February 2, 2001

Swansea City's Irish winger Ryan Casey has learned that he will be out of the game for at least two months and possibly until the end of the season.

Casey was stretchered off during Tuesday night's LDV Trophy victory over Reading and a scan has confirmed medial ligament damage to his knee.

Club physio Ritchie Evans said: " Ryan has suffered damage to his medial ligaments. It is a similar injury to the one that's kept Jonathan Coates out for so long. I'm hoping it's not as bad as it looks, but Ryan is certainly looking at some time out."

It's a big blow for the 22-year-old Coventry-born underage international who had earned a run of seven consecutive games in the first team after losing his place in November.

Casey needed every chance to impress because he is out of contract at the Vetch Field at the end of the season. Now he will be hoping that he can recover in time to force his way back into the side for the last few games of the season.
