Quinn scores again - August 24, 2000 Niall Quinn scored his second goal in two games for Sunderland last night - but it was not enough to save his team from a 4-2 beating at Maine Road against Manchester City. Trailing 2-0 at the time Quinn rose unchallenged in the City box in the 64th minute to hit a powerful header into the back of the net. Three minutes later Sunderland were level when Kevin Phillips smashed home a Kevin Kilbane cross and it looked as if they would go on to win the game but two last goals from Paolo Wanchope ruined their night. Elsewhere, Coventry got their first away win in over a season when they beat Southampton 2-1 at the Dell. Bad news for Ireland with the match against Holland coming up is that Gary Breen was dropped from the squad. The dodgy defender didn't even make the bench, which could spell the end of his days at Highfield Road. Rory Delap must be a doubt for the Ireland game also. The Derby utility player missed the club's trip to St. James' Gate to play Newcastle last night after picking up an injury at the weekend. Shay Given conceded two goals in the game but Newcastle still won 3-2. Dean Kiely also conceded his first goals of the season as Everton beat Charlton 3-0 at Goodison Park. Only for the Irish third-choice goalkeeper, the score could have been much worse as he made a string of wonderful saves.
