Whelan wants one more year - July 11, 2000

Eircom League veteran Paul Whelan is a free agent - and looking for a club for at least one last season.

Whelan, with over 400 league appearances under his belt, had a miserable time last year, suffering broken ribs and a punctured lung.

But new Dundalk boss Martin Murray has given the 36-year-old a free transfer and Whelan is keen to play one more season.

'I'm still only 36, I'm back to full fitness and I feel there is one good year left in me in the top flight,' Whelan said. 'After all, my brother Ronnie didn't retire until he was 37.'
