Portmarmock: we're off to sunny Spain and FAI Cup can wait! - February 9,
2001
Dublin junior side Portmarnock, whose appeal stopped Wednesday's FAI Cup third-round replay against Dundalk from going ahead, are set to keep the Eircom League first division side for at least another fortnight.
Portmarnock got Wednesday's game stopped on the grounds that it had been refixed - from last Saturday - at unreasonably short notice. Their appeal to the FAI must be heard before February 21.
Dundalk were furious that Wednesday's match was called off after they, their supporters and he match officials had already made the trip to Dublin and arrived at the ground.
But regardless of when the appeal is heard, the match is unlikely now to go ahead until the last week in February - just days before the quarter-finals are due to be played.
For Portmarnock are heading off to Marbella, Spain, next Friday. The long-arranged trip is a reward for winning last season's Amateur Union League premier title.
