Phelan returns to training today - October 3, 2000

Irish international full back Terry Phelan will return to training with Fulham today.

The troubled star was told to take a month off by his doctor, who diagnosed the player as suffering from depression.

Terry took the time to take a break in Spain and returned to Craven Cottage over the weekend to rejoin his team.

Phelan's troubles began when he was forced to train with the club's youth team and did not figure for the first-team under Jean Tigana.

He asked for a move from the club but this was refused which seemed to send him off the deep-end.

Fulham's managing director Michael Fiddy said: "Terry is returning to training with the squad after coming through a difficult time. We look forward to him making a positive contribution over the forthcoming months."
