Doolin (37) is Player of the Month! - February 16, 2001

Shelbourne's Paul Doolin has been announced as the Eircom Soccer Writers' Player of the Month for January - a month which saw the reigning champions pick up seven points out of twelve to consolidate their grip on the league title.

The chrome-domed 37-year-old also scored the two goals which knocked Monaghan out of the FAI Cup and added a third in the 1-1 league draw with Cork City for good measure.

Doolin beat of competition from Bray's Colm Tresson, Derry duo Darren Kelly and Peter Hutton (Derry were the only team to beat Shelbourne in January), Pat Deans of Shamrock Rovers, Cork City's Tony Tynan and Shelbourne team-mate Eoin Heary.

"Paul's playing out of his skin at the moment. It shows what you can do if you look after yourself," said Doolin's manager at Shelbourne, Dermot Keely.
