Byrne quits Saints - January 31, 2001

St. Pat's unsettled midfielder Paul Byrne has quit the club at his own request. Byrne hasn't featured in the team since the FAI Cup win over Wayside Celtic at the beginning of January and has been frozen out for the last four games.

The way is now open for the former Glasgow Celtic and Southend United player to rejoin Bohemians - but the Gypsies say they have had no contact with the player and the league's transfer deadline expires tomorrow.

In other Eircom League moves, Longford manager Stephen Kenny has added further to his squad, acquiring Sean Riordan from Kilkenny City on a free transfer; Bray Wanderers have signed Dave Williamson, released by Bohemians yesterday; and St. Pat's have signed former Shamrock Rovers 'keeper Jody Byrne as cover for Seamus Kelly.

Bray Wanderers manager Pat Devlin said: "Dave will provide us with options in wide areas."
