Butler to sign for Wolves today? - December 15, 2000
Irish central defender Paul Butler will join Wolverhampton Wanderers from Sunderland today if he can agree personal terms with the Molineux club.
Wolves and Sunderland have agreed a £1m fee for the one-cap Irish defender but there is still a bit of work to be done if the deal is to be finalised.
Butler has been on loan at Wolves for the last month and in this time he impressed boss Colin Lee enough that he decided to try and make the move permanent.
Paul knows that he has no future at Sunderland after the signing of defenders Emerson Thome and Stanislav Varga and is anxious to get back to playing week in week out instead of sitting on the bench.
The deal will prove to be good business for Sunderland. They signed Butler for £1m for Bury back in 1998 and they will recoup their money as long as personal terms are agreed.
