Good news or bad news for Butler - October 24, 2000

Bolton's bid to bring Paul Butler to the Reebok Stadium on loan has fallen on deaf ears at Sunderland.

Bolton manager Sam Allardyce contacted Peter Reid in a bid to get out-of-favour Butler on loan but the Sunderland boss said that their was no chance of a deal.

Butler has lost his place in the Sunderland first team due to the arrival of Emerson Thome and last week he even failed to find a place on the bench - but still Peter Reid has no intention of loaning him out.

Paul has come to the attention of a couple of First Division clubs over the last couple of weeks but so far none has enticed him away from the Stadium of Light.

The Bolton boss has conceded defeat for the moment but if he fails to get Mark Fish to sign a new deal he could well go back to Sunderland and make another bid for the Irish central defender.
